How to Store Your E-Bike Battery Correctly

How to Store Your E-Bike Battery Correctly

Whether you’re taking a break from riding for a few weeks or putting your e-bike away for the season, storing the battery properly is essential for maintaining its performance, safety and lifespan. At Cikada, we want every ride to feel as smooth and reliable as the first. Follow these simple tips to keep your battery in excellent condition while it’s not in use.

1. Keep It in a Cool, Dry Environment

Extreme temperatures can affect lithium-ion batteries, so it’s important to store them somewhere stable.

  • Ideal temperature: between 10°C and 25°C (50°F–77°F).
  • Avoid: outdoor sheds during winter, overheated garages in summer, or any area with excessive humidity.
2. Avoid Storing It Fully Charged or Fully Empty

Leaving a battery at 100% charge or completely drained for long periods can gradually reduce its capacity.

  • Best practice: store the battery at around 50–70% charge.
  • If it will be stored for several weeks or months, check the charge level every 4–6 weeks and top it up slightly if needed.
3. Remove the Battery from the Bike (If Possible)

Taking the battery off the bike while it’s not being used helps prevent unnecessary energy drain and reduces strain on the electrical system. It also allows you to store the battery in a more controlled environment.

4. Avoid Placing It on Metal Surfaces

Setting the battery directly on metal surfaces could increase the risk of static discharge or accidental short circuits. Instead, place it on a wooden shelf, cupboard or other non-conductive surface.

5. Use the Official Charger Only

Third-party chargers may not be fully compatible and could damage the battery or shorten its lifespan. For safe and efficient charging, always use the original Cikada charger supplied with your bike.

6. Handle Carefully When Transporting

If you need to move or travel with your battery:

  • Carry it in a padded bag or protective case
  • Avoid leaving it loose in a car boot
  • Keep it away from excessive heat, rain or moisture
Final Tip: Look After Your Battery

Your e-bike battery is the core of your riding experience. With a little care and attention during storage, you can help preserve its performance, extend its lifespan and keep every journey smooth and dependable.
